I am dreaming up an article that talks about dwindling class sizes in some clubs. Why are we not seeing the participant base that we should in class? I know that the participants are out there. A gym in my area has completely full classes more often than not while running 3 studios at the same time. Yet another club in the same city is lucky to have 5 people in the same class. And the answer is not as simple as 'quality of instruction' - I have taught at both. The instructors have fairly equal amounts of training and experience. What are the reasons? Are there solutions?
I am still working on my article for American Fitness Magazine. I am super excited to get the opportunity to do this - even if it won't be publushed until mid 2007. I think it will really be useful for a lot of instructors, plus it will get the name of the website out there, which is always a good thing. The article will give a brief overview of the 'teach to radio play music' that we use on this site.
My July workshops are coming up next week here in sunny (hot) Columbia, SC. I have seen a lot of participants signing up online - I always love to see that email in my inbox that says 'Registration' - it makes my day. We are going to have a great time and learn a ton!
