Do your participants look like they're out of control on the bike?
Are there faces in such contortion that you're not quite sure if you're in class or in an insane asylum?
Does it look like they are a kernel of popcorn waiting to bounce off their bike?
If you've said yes to any of these, it's unfortunately normal. But you can change this, quite easily. Use this simple four word phrase and you'll notice a change in them almost immediately. Four simple words can change how your class rides their bike.
Make It Look Easy
That's right. Make it look easy. You know how it goes, you ask them to add resistance and all of a sudden their face contorts. Or their bodies start moving side to side. Or they mash the pedals with the "face of pain".
Remember the harder the effort, the urge to tense up increases. Pain creates tension, and tension fuels pain. No more faces of pain. Remind them to take control of their bodies. Relax the shoulders and facial muscles, use the lower half from hip down, upper body is quiet and in control. Think happy thoughts. If their faces start to contort again, just say come on,,,make it look easy. I know you came to work hard, but don't let the negativity drain your energy.
Relieve it! Relax it! Let go and enjoy! AND, Make It Look Easy!
